In 2007, Erik Kolar bought the former residence of Owen J. Roberts, the former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, in Chester Springs to transform it into a home for his family to be together, writes Bill Donahue for Suburban Life Magazine.

Kolar, the CEO of Patriot Equities in Wayne, bought the property, comprised of a home built in 1789 and a bank barn built in 1873, to restore a connection with his siblings after their father’s death.

With help from B&D Builders, the historic home and barn were renovated and boldly reimagined.

B&D reused as many existing materials as possible to maintain its roots. Kolar wanted to preserve the barn’s old-world charm but also wanted to incorporate modern amenities like heated floors, a full kitchen, restrooms, and guest bedrooms.

“Honestly, you can’t tell the difference between what was added and what was original — it’s seamless,” said Kolar. “B&D moved heaven and earth to complete the project in time. We were able to host 100 people on Christmas Eve in a nice, safe, climate-controlled space. That’s the benefit of 30-foot ceilings.”
