Zakiya Young, a Downingtown native, has been experiencing an influx of love throughout the Keystone State by starring in a popular tv series that takes place in Pennsylvania, writes Joshua Axelrod for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Young, a graduate of the then Downingtown Senior High School, has recently acted in HBO Max’s Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. The show is a thriller based on books written by Sara Shepard—another Downingtown alum.

Young plays Corey Bryant, the divorced mother of an aspiring ballerina. Most of the show takes place in the town of Millwood outside of Pittsburgh, which Young said reminded of her growing up in Downingtown.

“I thought I was more entertaining than I probably was,” said Young about telling her cast mates stories of Pennsylvania. “When you see yourself represented, it’s just exciting. I just love to pass on a slice of authenticity.”

HBO has confirmed a season two renewal. Young’s character was heavily involved in season one and she is looking forward to seeing what shenanigans will arise next time she’s on screen.
