Earlier this year, the Brandywine River Museum of Art in Chadds Ford announced plans to hire a curator to manage 7,000 pieces from the Andrew and Betsy Wyeth Collection at both the Brandywine Museum and Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine, writes Stephan Salisbury for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

William Coleman, former director of collections at the the Olana Partnership in Hudson, N.Y., will be the first curator of the trove and also the director of the Andrew and Betsy Wyeth Study Center.

Betsy Wyeth founded and maintained the Wyeth Collection until her death in 2020. Now, Coleman will work with staff to create exhibitions, loan artwork to other institutes, develop research about Andrew Wyeth, and much more.

“What I’m fascinated by is how she is this really crucial, not only archival and managerial, but also creative force behind the scenes,” said Coleman about Betsy Wyeth.

Coleman begins his employment on Oct. 17 at the Brandywine Museum.
