Barry Fragale, owner Fragale Brothers Barber Shop in Kennett Square with his brother Mike, has been met with an outpouring of support from the community after a rogue wave paralyzed him from the neck down, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News

Fragale was injured on Aug. 14 while at the beach with his family. He was in shallow water when he was hit in the back by a wave so strong that it broke his neck in several places.

He was immediately flown to the hospital and has been in the ICU since then. He has already had two surgeries, with more probably on the way. His road to recovery will be long and arduous.

Due to astronomical medical costs not covered by insurance, a GoFundMe fundraising campaign has been set up. The community jumped to help, with nearly 650 people donating more than $88,000 as of this writing.

One boy even came to the barbershop offering the contents of his piggy bank.

“I think this shows how much Barry is loved and how he has touched people in the community,” said his wife, Monica.
