Isabella Hanson, a rising senior at Kennett High School, is one of this year’s recipients of the prestigious Diana Award, writes Simon Perry for People.

Named after the late Princess Diana, the award honors people between 9 and 25 years old for their social action and humanitarian work.

Hanson, a Chadds Ford resident, was recognized for founding and developing “I Matter,” a youth poetry program focused on the Black Lives Matter movement, and publishing a book of the same name that features poems by 12 young authors.

Prince William, Diana’s son, honored this year’s award recipients on July 1, which would have been Diana’s 61st birthday.

In a moving letter, he called all the winners “an inspiration.”

“Congratulations on receiving the Diana Award today!” he wrote. “You are part of an inspirational generation of young people who are changing the world through your actions, and I hugely admire your efforts.”

Both William and his brother, Prince Henry, support the award that is the only charity to carry the name of their mother. This year, the award recognized a total of180 changemakers and philanthropists from 29 countries.
