If you have not seen much luck with finding the job openings you want, it is probably time to change up your strategy. It is very likely there are tons of great chances that you are just not encountering because your search methods need work.

The Balance Careers shared quite a few good resources, starting with the best job boards.

Sites to Find Jobs

You likely are already trying Indeed and LinkedIn, but there are many other great places to search. There are some of the commonly advertised names, like Monster and Glassdoor.

But there are also other sites that might fly under the radar, such as the National Labor Exchange and the National Retail Federation. Even just searching for “local jobs” on Google could yield some good positions.

Check the Sites of Companies that Interest You

You might assume any good job opening will turn up on sites like Indeed, but that’s not always true. Sometimes companies don’t share that information with other sites.

Make sure you are periodically checking out the “careers” section of companies that you have always dreamed of working with.

Set Up Alerts

While you should definitely be utilizing all methods you find helpful, you can take some of the stress out of it by setting up job alerts on many job search sites.

This will have the site email you when a job that matches the criteria you enter becomes available, so you can stay in the loop even on days you are giving yourself a break.

Network

People always say it’s who you know that makes the difference. If you need help, reach out to colleagues or former classmates working in your field. You never know who can point you in the right direction.

Ask

Sometimes it really is as simple as needing to ask. Want to know if that company you like could use someone? It doesn’t hurt to send them an email letting them know you are interested and sharing your background.

The worst they can do is say no or just not respond. But they could also have an opening that they weren’t sharing publicly.

Finding a job is hard, but you can alleviate part of that by being fully aware of what tools are at your disposal to help you.
