Hard Fought Race Lands Unionville High School Grad Spot on U.S. Rowing National Team
Elaine Tierney, a West Chester native and Unionville High School graduate, earned a spot on the U.S. Senior National Team at the USRowing Summer National Championships, according to a staff report from Owl Sports.
Tierney won the lightweight women’s pair competing for the Vesper Boat Club, claiming both the national championship and a place on this year’s world championships’ team. Tierney teamed up with Solveig Imsadahl for the race.
“It was definitely a hard fought and well worked for race,” said Tierney. “We kept ourselves internal and focused on our strokes like we do in practice. This helped us take the lead in the first 500 meters off the start and be in a good position to respond well to the other crew’s final sprint.”
Last year, Tierney competed on the U.S. Rowing U23 National Team. She was a five-year member of the Temple University women’s rowing varsity eight boat and a Second Team all-AAC selection in 2022.
She was also named the 2018 Newcomer of the Year by Temple’s rowing program and Temple Women’s Rowing Athlete of the Year in 2020.
