The YMCA of Greater Brandywine’s gymnastics team, the GYMCATS, traveled to compete at the YMCA National Gymnastics Championship in Toledo, Ohio, from June 22-26.

“We are excited for our athletes to get the opportunity to showcase their talent and hard work at the highest level in YMCA gymnastics. They had a fantastic showing at the Pennsylvania state gymnastics meet and we’re looking forward to more great competition,” said Megan Hartman, gymnastics director.

More than 4,000 gymnasts, coaches, and spectators were present at the national meet. The Oscar Lasko YMCA gymnastics team, the GYMCATS, had 35 athletes competing in the All-Around (vault, beam, floor, and bars). GYMCATS is a competitive gymnastics team where members can develop their skills and abilities while competing in meets. Recreational and preschool programs are also available.

“The national championship meet has been held since 1938, and it is such a great tradition among YMCA gymnastics programs,” said Hartman. “We have seven seniors who graduated this year and this will be the final meet of their gymnastics career with the GYMCATS. We’re looking at this competition as a celebration of all they have accomplished with the program.”
