For three decades, Landenberg couple Wyn and Cindy Hiles owned a 7.8-acre property off Penn Green Road, and after Wyn’s death in 2016, Cindy sought to preserve the land to prevent development and keep his legacy alive, writes Richard Gaw for the Chester County Press. 

The two were married and raised their two sons on the banks of White Clay Creek, so it was important to the family that those memories remained intact.

Hiles worked with the New Garden Township’s Open Space Review Board (OSRB) to place an easement on the land, which went through last month after years of negotiations. The township aims to create a trail system to connect it to the White Clay Creek Preserve. 

With the acquisition of the Hiles property, OSRB has preserved more than 450 acres in the township. 

“The land where we once lived is a magical place to me — with its views and the creek — and when a Bald Eagle soars through there, it takes my breath away,” she said.
