The Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center and West Chester University are joining forces for three shows this spring, starting with the Wells School of Music’s 32nd Annual Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 25 at 7:30 PM.

Featuring the award-winning Dave Liebman, as well as The Criterions (WCU’s jazz ensemble) and the Dalí Quartet, this event promises to be a magical evening of memorable music. The event will also preview a new composition by Jonathan Ragonese that features students from the wind and brass departments.

The Wells School of Music will return to the Uptown! stage on Friday, April 1 at 7:30 PM as it presents the “Sounds of the Caribbean” with Dr. Marc Jacoby and WCU’s Latin Jazz and Steel bands.

Special guests Juan Alamo and John Wooton, as well as members of the Wells School of Music jazz faculty, will perform everything from the high-energy sounds of the Mambo, Merengue, and Soca to the slow grooves of the Calypso, Bolero, and Bachata.

Completing the trifecta on Sunday, April 3 at 3 PM is the West Chester Dance Works’ annual concert/fundraiser, “Refresh!” This much-anticipated event features a concert-length dance production.

This one-of-a-kind fundraiser brings dancers of all ages into a dynamic and inspiring family-friendly production featuring guest performances from WCU’s Dance Company. A “premier” experience, which includes a pre-concert reception (tasting menu and cash bar), “Refresh” gift bag, and VIP seating, will also be offered at 2 PM.

“WCU, Wells School of Music, and West Chester Dance Works are the not-so-hidden gems of our community,” said April Evans, executive director for Uptown! “These performances will shine a spotlight on the breadth of musical and dance talent trained and nurtured here in West Chester.”
