Jane Chalfant has been a mainstay in West Chester since it opened in 1933. Now, its longtime owners, Patrick and Kiki Comerford, who took over the women’s clothing shop from Patrick’s parents, are ready to retire, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News

For the couple, the moment is bittersweet.

“We are still looking to pass the baton to another owner, possibly in a new location,” said Patrick. “I spent my lifetime here.”

Over the decades, the Comerfords have kept up with an evolving West Chester and ever-changing fashion business.

“Over the years, since the 1980s, fashions changed dramatically, and it was our job to change with it,” said Patrick.

For his wife, people were the most important aspect of their work.

“The people we work with and the clientele we met here are our friends,” she said. “We will miss the buzz on a busy day in the back fitting rooms.”

The two plan to continue working together on their farm and historic home in East Bradford and are looking forward to being able to visit their children more often.
