The Chester County History Center will welcome more than 150 students from Chester and Delaware counties today and tomorrow for a National History Day competition.

This year’s competition, the first held in person after two years of being virtual, is centered on the theme of Debate & Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, Consequences.

Students in grades 6-12 will present their research to a panel of 40 volunteer judges. Winners at the regional level advance to the state competition, and the state winners represent Pennsylvania at the National History Day contest in College Park, Md., in June.

“National History Day is important because it engages and inspires students through the purest of human expressions, their passions,” said Conor Hepp, President of the Chester County History Center. “Whether it be through film, design, or writing, students have the opportunity to tell the stories of our shared past while gaining critical skills that will help them in their future.”

The Chester County History Center is committed to the preservation of Chester County’s history and the continued effort to be a resource for new history makers. Each year, CCHC serves thousands of community members who engage through museum visits, research in its library and photo archives, participation in virtual and in-person programming, and special events.
