Tuesday with Michael: Secret #7:  Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing

If you want to make this year the best year ever, you need to develop a relentless focus on what really matters most.

First, determine what is most important and significant in your personal and professional life (At this point in the process, hopefully, you already know).

Next, set up ironclad boundaries so you are not interrupted with the tyranny of the urgent which usually isn’t truly important. These are things that intrude on your focus-time and distract you from working on your goals.

It is also important to focus on what you want and not on what you don’t want. What you focus on is what you will get – whether you perceive it negatively or positively.

Figure out a way to simplify, eliminate, delegate or outsource any activity that you, yourself, do not absolutely have to do or perhaps, you are not THE BEST at doing it. Then, take massive action on your goals.

Make this a daily habit and you will be guaranteed to achieve what you want in business and in life. Remember, “It’s hard by the yard, but it’s a cinch by the inch.” Concentrate daily upon doing the little things that eventually will help you accomplish the big things.

Lastly, if you want to succeed, you must create and maintain an environment that is conducive to ongoing motivation. Use your creativity and organize your office space and work environment to energize you. Surround yourself with positive, goal-directed, self-motivated people.

The author, James Allen, once wrote, “All successful people are people of purpose.  They hold fast to an idea, a project, a plan and will not let it go. They cherish it, brood upon it, tend and develop it and when assailed by difficulties, they refuse to be beguiled into surrender. Indeed, the intensity of the purpose increases with the growing magnitude of the obstacles encountered.”
