The job market in North America has seen a drastic shift in employment over the past year, writes James C. Price for Express Employment Professionals.

Last year, more than 42 million employees left their jobs, and the trend is expected to continue into this year.

According to an Indeed survey, the reasons why workers resigned include searching out remote work opportunities (45 percent), wanting more flexibility to care for family (40 percent), looking for flexible work hours (34 percent), and the inability to follow COVID-19 safety protocols (34 percent).

To create a successful retention and recruiting strategy during the current job market, it is good to examine the reasons listed by individuals who participated in the Great Resignation but are no longer considering changing jobs. These include good work-life balance (56 percent), flexibility in remote work (46 percent), and a positive working environment (43 percent).

In addition to focusing on these elements, it is a good idea to give retention and hiring bonuses to keep or attract talent. Wage increases should also be used as a means to retain talent.
