A charming farmhouse with a modern riff in West Marlborough Township is the perfect home for Jacob and Kate Chalfin, writes Eileen Smith Dallabrida for The Hunt Magazine.

Thanks to its open and expansive floorplan, the couple has ample room for gatherings with friends and family while also keeping an eye on their two exuberant children.

Jacob Chalfin is a well-known rider in the steeplechase community and writer. He has been wheelchair-bound for the past 12 years after a fall during a race left him paralyzed from the chest down.

“There’s no reason you can’t design an accessible house that doesn’t feel clinical,” he said. “I like the farmhouse look because it’s warm and welcoming and never looks dated — and I think we achieved that.”

The home’s many highlights include a new deck off the back of the house with views of the sparkling creek and glimpses of deer and heron, a kitchen-adjacent seating area inspired by a trip to Spain, and a cozy living room with a wood-burning fireplace.

“There’s nothing better than the crackle of a real fire,” said Chalfin.
