Chester County Hospital’s rich history, which spans almost 130 years, will be the subject of a Chester County History Center presentation next week, writes Richard Gaw for the Chester County Press.

“The Story of the Chester County Hospital” is an hour-long online presentation sponsored by The Haverford Trust Company and hosted by Andy Gordon, Director of Business Development at Chester County Hospital. It will start at 7 PM on Feb. 8.

The hospital opened its doors in 1893 at the urging of several local physicians. It began as a small, 10-bed dispensary and provided residents with life-threatening injuries and illness with a much closer option than Philadelphia.

“Disease travels with people and with wars, and ultimately, that fact is what ended up getting the townspeople to the point where they said, ‘We need to be able to take care of people here,’” said Gordon.

With support from the community, the hospital grew in both size and impact. Today, it is a 309-bed inpatient complex in West Chester with outpatient services in Exton, West Goshen, New Garden, West Grove, Jennersville, and Kennett Square.
