More than 150 acres belonging to Starr Farm were commemorated by a Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant of $1.2 million. Michael Rellahan covered the financial investment and its impact for the Daily Local News.

Previously, Chester County had dedicated the project over $1.3 million from its Preservation Partnership grant program.

“With more and more people turning to the outdoors since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are pleased to support land acquisitions of this nature that help expand outdoor recreation opportunities in Pennsylvania communities,” said Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn.

Thanks to state and county grants, the township will acquire the deed to the 156-acre property and use it for resource conservation and recreational public use.

“The preservation of the historic Starr Farm property in East Bradford adds to our ongoing commitment to conserving our natural resources for all people, including generations yet to come,” said State Sen. Carolyn Comitta. “I look forward to seeing our friends, neighbors, and visitors enjoy Starr Farm and the thousands of additional acres we’ve succeeded in saving here in Chester County.”

The plot adjoins the same-named 25-acre park, adding to the 1,000-plus-acre conservation corridor between East Branch Brandywine Creek and West Valley Creek.
