French construction materials giant Saint-Gobain continues its energized expansion in North America, and that could benefit its Malvern headquarters significantly, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The company recently announced the acquisition of Massachusetts-based GCP Applied Technologies for $2.3 billion. Mark Rayfield, Saint-Gobain North America CEO, called the deal “a great opportunity for Philadelphia.”

According to Rayfield, while the majority of GCP employees will continue to be concentrated in Massachusetts and Georgia, there will be plenty of future opportunities for them in Malvern. He emphasized that the company is constantly looking to add new talent at its Chester County location, which is currently home to 1,000 of Saint-Gobain’s 15,000 North American employees.

Over the course of the next year, the company will be looking to add around 300 engineers to its domestic operations, along with 300 to 400 managers and plant supervisors.

Saint-Gobain’s Malvern building — which has adapted throughout the pandemic to be more conducive to flexible work arrangements — is well positioned for expansion, with enough space to accommodate more employees.

“I’m not sure we’re looking for more real estate today in Philadelphia, but we’re looking for more people in Philadelphia,” said Rayfield.
