Since September, Country Butcher Fine Foods in Kennett Square — an artisan fine foods market established in 1982 — has been under the ownership of the DeRasmo family. Jen Samuel of the Daily Local News reports on how the new leadership is faring.
“The mission is to provide the highest quality products available to us,” said Joseph DeRasmo, co-owner and president of the business.
The business is a true family affair.
Joseph shares ownership with his parents (Landenberg residents) and his wife, Rebecca, in their Delaware home. The entire clan, however, hails from Kennett Square.
Now that they are fully in charge of the butchery, the priority for the family is to feature as many local products as they can.
“We actively search for the freshest ingredients to be used in the store,” said DeRasmo. “We also look to find local retail products from people in the community and the surrounding region.”
Some of the business’s top sellers include homemade sausages, Seven Sisters cheese from Doe Run Farm, and fresh, store-made cookies.
The fine foods market also has a prepared food and catering department that makes all its meals in-house.
