Tony and Suki Liu, owners of Lily Asian Cuisine Sushi & Grill in Kennett Square, recently opened their new restaurant, GuGu Asian Table. Jen Samuel covered the new Longwood Gardens-area eatery for the Daily Local News.

The couple — who opened their first establishment 10 years ago — grew up in China and moved to America in 1995.

Their latest culinary experience is a fine-dining establishment that highlights Tony’s artistic and refined palate, both in the menu and the ambiance.

The interior of GuGu boasts wall-to-wall oak panels, combined with stone. The two natural elements create a unique style.

The restaurant’s menu features a wide variety of high-end dishes, including bang bang shrimp and bluefin tuna toro.

During the pandemic, Lily never closed, but instead transitioned to takeout and delivery orders.

“Thanks for supporting us in 2020,” said Tony. “The government of Kennett Square supported us in tough times.”

The couple said patrons also helped keep the stove hot during the shutdown by continuing to order takeout and leaving very generous tips.

As a result, the Liu family retained all of its employees during the shutdown.
