The Chester County History Center has opened its newest exhibit space, entitled “Visible Storage.”

With more than 600 pieces now on view, visitors can see a wide range of artifacts dating from 1684 to the mid-1900s.

“Visible Storage” is a critical opportunity to re-house and place on public view significant decorative and fine arts objects that are part of a premier museum collection. The types of artifacts selected for this new space include furniture, clocks, paintings, ceramics, silver, pewter, quilts, coverlets, needlework tools, and samplers, among others.

Making artifacts visually available to the public in this condensed but appealing manner will exponentially increase access and reduce handling. Artifacts were only available to the public through interpreted exhibitions and by research appointment. This project has made substantial segments of the museum collection more visually accessible in a secure public setting.

“Visible Storage” encompasses almost 2,000 square feet of exhibit space and represents Phase Two of an institutional collections effort.

CCHC is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:30 AM-4:30 PM. Walk-ins are welcome, but tickets can be purchased ahead of time.

The project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, an independent agency of the federal government that provides library grants, museum grants, policy development, and research.
