Dressler Estate in Downingtown takes a wine-like approach to its ciders.

The local cider scene is gaining ground in the Philadelphia region, alongside the booming craft beer scene. One of the best cideries around, according to Philadelphia magazine, is Dressler Estate in Downingtown.

The family-run business takes a wine-like approach to its ciders.

Husband-and-wife team Brian and Olga Dressler use champagne yeast for their sparkling version. This ingredient creates a finer bubble, along with a more delicate flavor.

The family also makes a still cider (no bubbles). The Dressler version uses best-practice fermentation techniques to produce a dry, elegant flavor.

The cidery has flagship drinks available year-round, such as Modern Still and Modern Sparkling. Its seasonal products include Origin Manor and Origin Highfield.

These ciders can be found throughout the Philadelphia suburbs. But they are particularly abundant (of course) in Chester County restaurants and stores that include:

  • Animated Brewing Company, Coatesville
  • Bottle Room, Downingtown
  • Locust Lane Craft Brewery, Malvern
  • Split Rail Tavern, West Chester
  • Waywood Beverage, Kennett Square
