Pair of Chester County Businesses Among Greater Philadelphia’s 20 Highest-Valued Startups

Two businesses based in Chester County are among Greater Philadelphia’s 20 Highest-Valued Startups, writes Kennedy Rose for The Philadelphia Business Journal.

The list of the highest-valued local startups was compiled based on valuations within the past two years, provided by venture capital analytics firm PitchBook, as of Oct. 19.

Among Chester County businesses, Paoli-based DuckDuckGo ranked highest, at No. 5. The company’s most recent valuation was $839 million as of June 9.

Led by founder and CEO Gabe Weinberg, the privacy-focused Internet search engine quietly raised more than $100 million from investors such as Omers Ventures, WhatsApp founder Brian Acton, and even the World Wide Web inventor, Tim Berners-Lee.

The company saw an increase in search traffic of 55 percent last year; it is now the second most popular search engine on cell phones in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and The Netherlands.

Transparent Health Marketplace in Wayne ranked No. 10. The company was last valued on Feb. 10 at $267 million.

The healthcare tech startup, with Executive Chairman Munawar Ali at its helm, is focused on improving worker’s compensation transactions by connecting payors and providers on its platform.
