Four years ago, as an incoming freshman in high school, West Chester native Claire Pinnie had to make a tough decision about her future, writes Bruce Adams for Main Line Media News.
She had to choose between playing soccer for her school (the Academy of Notre Dame) or the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. She opted for the latter.
“While I did miss the opportunity to play with my classmates and be a part of the rich Notre Dame athletic tradition, I feel that I gained valuable experience and exposure playing for the Development Academy,” said Pinnie.
Ultimately, though, she got the chance to play for her school as well, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Development Academy to close for a season.
“Although it was a shortened season, it was still one of my favorite high school experiences,” said Pinnie, who graduated as Notre Dame’s valedictorian and will compete at Columbia University in the fall.
She plans to major in Biomedical Engineering.
“While engineering has always been the specific field that I have been interested in,” she said, “I know that I want to pursue some career within the STEM field.”
