The number of coronavirus cases in Chester County has been on the rise for more than a month, as the Delta variant continues to spread across the country, according to The New York Times.

COVID-19 has spread, despite a countywide rate of vaccination that outpaces the state’s. Currently, 56 percent of Chester County residents are fully vaccinated. Pennsylvania’s overall rate is 54 percent.

Last week, there was an average of 80 new cases reported each day in Chester County. That translates to roughly 15 per 100,000 residents. This represents a 60 percent increase compared with two weeks prior. But it is still under the 85 percent average increase the state reported for the same period.

Hospitalizations are also on the rise, with an average of nine per 100,000 people last week. That puts the 14-day growth at 42 percent. In that same period, Pennsylvania has recorded a significantly higher average increase of 78 percent.
