Chester County recorded only 29 new cases of COVID-19 last week, bringing the coronavirus positivity rate in the county under one percent, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

The positivity rate dropped from 1.02 percent the previous week to 0.88 percent last week, according to the Chester County Health Department.

Overall, in the past 30 days, only 170 people tested positive for COVID-19 with 6,866 tests coming back negative. Three people died from the virus.

According to Health Department officials, the main reason for this low number of new cases is the vaccination success in Chester County. So far, more than 88 percent of eligible people have been vaccinated in the county, along with 70 percent in neighboring Delaware County.

Vaccine clinics at Exton Square Mall continue on Tuesdays through Fridays, from 12-8 PM, until July 18. County businesses still require that those who have not been vaccinated to wear a mask, but all are using the honor system with their customers.
