The risk level for COVID-19 is still very high in Chester County. But, the number of new infections is dropping. The main driver in this advance is the week-over-week progress in vaccinating residents, according to The New York Times.

The numbers of hospitalized patients and COVID-19-related deaths remained at the same level over that period.

In the past two weeks, an average of 111 cases per day were reported in the county. That statistic represents a 40 percent decrease. Since the start of the outbreak, infections beset approximately one in 13 residents.

Meanwhile, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that, as of May 4, Chester County had fully vaccinated 34 percent of its entire population. This is slightly above the state average of 33.7 percent.

In the category of adults 18 or older, 44 percent of county residents are fully vaccinated. The vaccination rate for senior residents (65-plus years old) for both shots is at 70 percent.
