Devon resident Howard M. Nathan, the CEO of the Gift of Life Donor Program, recently delivered the commencement address at Juniata College, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for Main Line Media News.

“Ask yourself,” he said to the Class of 2021. “How many lives will you change … how many genuinely wonderful lives?”

Nathan, a 1975 graduate of Juniata College, also received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

Gift of Life is an organ procurement organization. It serves the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and Delaware. Under Nathan’s leadership, the organization has grown from three to 250 employees and is now the largest organ procurement organization in the country.

Onyi Kenine introduced Nathan for the commencement address. Kenine, 17, is a liver transplant recipient for whom Gift of Life coordinated the life-saving organ transplant.

“He’s a true problem solver, the kind of person who is always looking for ways to help someone and to build a strong community,” said Kenine.
