In a recent employee survey, Seattle-based Microsoft, which has a sizable presence in Malvern with 37,000 square feet at 45 Liberty Boulevard, found that Generation Z employees are struggling more during the pandemic than their older counterparts, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

“An overlooked demographic appears to be suffering right now: Gen Z,” reported the Microsoft analysis. “Sixty percent of this generation those between the ages of 18 and 25 say they are merely surviving or flat-out struggling right now.”

The study identified multiple issues behind the malaise, including the higher impact of isolation on a generation that is more likely to be single and near the start of their careers. Due to not being on-site for their first professional jobs, many struggle with motivation at work. There is also the issue of not having developed the financial means to create proper workspaces at home.

“Gen Z also reported difficulties feeling engaged or excited about work, getting a word in during meetings, and bringing new ideas to the table,” reported Microsoft.
