Local Teen Sails Right Over State’s All-Time Record in Pole Vault

By

The first girl ever to clear 14 feet in a scholastic pole vault event in Pennsylvania did so recently at the Central Bucks West Relays, reports Nur B. Adam for the Bucks County Courier Times

Central Bucks West senior Chloe Timberg used a powerful run and fiberglass pole to clear 14 feet, 2.25 inches in the air. By the time she thumped to the mat on the other side, the previous state record — 13 feet, 7.25 inches — had fallen with her.

So had a statewide glass ceiling for girls sports.

Timberg is now the first female athlete to vault above 14 feet.

The accomplishment positions her as the nation’s ninth-best pole-vaulter of all time.

“Pole vault is something you can always build on,” Timberg said. “It’s like the most unsatisfying sport out there in a sense that even if you jump a lifetime PR (personal record), you are always hungry for more. You always want to jump higher.

“The motivation comes from the love of the sport. If you’re doing something you really like, you really feel, it’s not a chore to go out there and practice. It feels more like a privilege to be able to go out and compete.”
