YMCA Launches First-Ever Virtual 5K to Provide Financial Assistance for Summer Campers

By

The YMCA of Greater Brandywine is hosting its first-ever Virtual 5K from Saturday, April 24 through Saturday, May 1.

All are invited to register individually or as a team by clicking here.

Participants choose the time and place to run or walk the 5K – it can be on a treadmill, at a local YMCA, on a neighborhood street, a trail, or anywhere – then submit their walk/run time online. During the week, finishers will be entered to win raffle prizes daily. You do not need to be a member of the YMCA to participate.

Those who register by Sunday, April 4 will receive early bird pricing of $28/runner and are guaranteed a special commemorative Run for Good t-shirt. Registration increases to $35/runner on April 5 and commemorative shirts are then only available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All proceeds benefit the YMCA’s annual “CAMP-aign,” which is designed to ensure that every child in the community has the opportunity to attend the YMCA’s summer camp program. After months of isolation and staring at screens, children are craving social engagement, adventure and fun — all of which are available safely through the YMCA’s summer camps.

“Knowing the impact of the pandemic on children, our team began planning for our summer camps several months ago,” said Denise Day, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine. “In addition to the financial assistance we’ve always provided to ensure no one is ever turned away from the Y due to an inability to pay, our summer camp team has developed new activities and interactive, hands-on experiments and is working to ensure our summer camps help children heal from some of the impacts of the pandemic. We want to make the summer extra special.”
