East Vincent Township supervisors have voted against a zoning change that would allow for the development of more than 200 units in senior housing on farmland off Stony Run Road and West Bridge Street, writes Evan Brandt for the Daily Local News.

The vote was hailed by residents who had opposed the project as a huge victory.

“Thank you to all of you that spearheaded this,” wrote Katie Bittner-Cook on the East Vincent Advocacy Group Facebook page. “You had many sleepless nights investigating and trying to help inform all of us so that we could continue to have an amazing community to live in.”

The project was first introduced in June 2019. Then, Artisan Construction Group proposed the construction of 231 homes on a 66-acre Ruth farm and an 89-acre Bucco tract. Seven months later, the developer abandoned its plans to build on the Bucco tract and offered to save it as open space. Meanwhile, the overall number of homes was cut to 212.

The project required zoning changes that were reviewed both by the township planning commission and Chester County Planning Commission. Ultimately, these were rejected in a unanimous vote last week.
