Four of the nation’s worst truck traffic bottlenecks are in the Philadelphia region, writes Michael Tannenbaum for Philly Voice.

The pandemic has increased speeds at peak travel times, but congestion still existed in 2020.

The nonprofit American Transportation Research Institute’s annual ranking used GPS data from freight trucks to rate congestion impact areas along 300 highways.

There were open roads in March, earlier in the pandemic, but congestion returned to pre-pandemic levels by May.

The following four Philly-area bottlenecks made the Top 100 list.

Several roadway construction projects during 2020 contributed to the heavy congestion.

Pennsylvania had three other bottlenecks make the Top 100:

74th Pittsburgh: I-70 at I-79 (East)

93rd Harrisburg: State Road 581 at I-83

94th Pittsburgh: I-376

Nationwide, the Top 10 bottlenecks were in Fort Lee, N.J.; Cincinnati; Atlanta; Houston; Chicago; Chattanooga; St. Louis; Rye, N.Y.; and San Bernardino, Calif.
