Vanguard is one of a number of big businesses that have their headquarters in the Philadelphia area.

However, the region has been considered by many to not be the best place to start and grow a business, writes Courtney DuChene for Philadelphia magazine.

The city’s business tax rates might be among the highest in the nation, but the region counters that with its rich talent, universities, and a strong business network.

That is something that Vanguard CEO Mortimer “Tim” Buckley absolutely agrees with.

“Vanguard has called the Philadelphia area home since our founding,” he said. “As an employer, Vanguard benefits from a deep talent pool sourced from the region’s leading academic institutions, as well as Philadelphia’s strong business, tech, and entrepreneur communities.”

He said that employees get to enjoy not only the area’s vibrant neighborhoods, but also excellent healthcare, as well as the region’s rich history, leading arts, outdoor life, and relative affordability.

“Not to mention terrific sports teams,” he said.
