When they were building their new home in Malvern at the end of last year, Jimmy and Waylon Steele opted to use lighting to add a modern flair to their farmhouse décor, writes Terri Akman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

As a result, one of the first things people see when entering the home is a beautiful bronze chandelier.

“We wanted a ‘wow’ factor as soon as you walked in the door,” said Jimmy. “It gives you a fun talking point.”

Considering the many lighting options available on the market today, both in design and technology, the Steeles decided to consult with lighting pro Paul Mihranian, president of Exton-based Lighting by Design, early in the building stage to turn their vision into reality.

Mihranian helped them navigate the numerous available choices that seemed overwhelming. Together, they decided where the recessed lighting and dimmers would be placed and also determined which types of fixtures would work best throughout the home.

The impressive final setup is controlled by Alexa through a smart home system.
