West Chester-Based Student’s Christmas Song That Perfectly Fits 2020’s Holiday Mood Goes Viral

By

Wallis Schriver, 15, a student at the West Chester-based Center for Performing and Fine Arts, a program for students enrolled in the Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School, has managed to create a new Christmas song and accompanying video that perfectly fits 2020 – and people are taking notice, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia magazine.

As of this writing, the song has amassed more than 320,000 views on YouTube, and the number keeps climbing, which has surprised and delighted the young artist.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this,” said Schriver, a resident of Meadowbrook, a community in Montgomery County. “My friends are texting me all day long. I’m thankful.”

As its name suggests, “Lonely Christmas” is not the usual, cheery Christmas tune. It was made to reflect what a holiday, when we cannot see our family or friends, feels like for so many people.

Still, the young songwriter wants people to find more than sadness in her song.

“I want them to find hope in it as well,” she said. “Yes, these are the hardest moments. But it’s not permanent. It’s going to be OK. As I sing in the song: It’s alright. We’re just stuck at a red light.”
