Wayne-Based Airline to Launch Service at Philadelphia Airport

Wayne-based Eastern Airlines is launching its service at Philadelphia International Airport and will begin offering nonstop flights twice per week to Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, writes Laura Smythe for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

“Having Eastern as one of our partners supports a local company and helps connect underserved markets to the Greater Philadelphia region,” said Chellie Cameron, CEO of Philadelphia International Airport.

Eastern Airlines will fly Boeing 767 aircraft that will also make it possible for the company to carry cargo. The local carrier will offer the highest baggage allowance at the airport, allowing passengers to bring up to six bags, two of which are free (up to 70 pounds.)

“We are excited to launch service at our hometown airport and to offer more non-stop options to the Philadelphia community,” said Steve Harfst, CEO of Eastern Airlines.

He said that the company aims to “earn this city’s affection,” which will ultimately “help us to invest here long-term.”

The company signed a three-year lease in Wayne last summer, relocating from High Point, N.C.
