NPR: Violin Prodigy from Exton Plays from the Heart

By

Anagha Kapsi, 15, a violinist from Exton, creates musical magic with her instrument by playing every composition from the heart, according to National Public Radio’s classical music podcast, From the Top.

Kapsi is in 10th grade at the Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School, where she is part of the University Scholars Program. For her musical studies, she attends The Music School of Delaware and the Settlement Music School.

Her interest in music goes well beyond the violin. She also composes her pieces and enjoys conducting them as well.

“I always love to conduct,” she said. “I really got a great opportunity in the summer at an orchestra summer camp at my music school. We had just a 30-minute round of the students getting to conduct our orchestra, which was really fun.”

Kapsi is also part of several orchestras, including the Philadelphia Music Alliance for Youth, the Settlement Music School’s Advanced Study Ensemble, and Philadelphia Youth Orchestra.

The accomplishments she is proudest of include composing a string quartet for a Holocaust awareness project and winning the Delaware Concerto Competition for Young Musicians.

With her interest in different cultures, Kapsi’s goal when playing and composing is “to collaborate and bring people together through music.”
