California-based Grocery Outlet is expanding its footprint on the East Coast with a significant number of new stores, including one in Malvern, writes Jon Springer for Grocery Business magazine.

The discounter has recently posted job listings for independent store operations managers for a number of new stores in the Philadelphia region.

“We are looking for strong retail professionals that are interested in partnering with Grocery Outlet to run new stores throughout Pennsylvania,” read the post published on Oct. 21.

Grocery Outlet is also looking to fill several corporate positions in Pennsylvania.

Grocery Outlet functions with a unique model, where stores with its name are usually owned and operated by independent entrepreneurs who are responsible for the store’s hiring, operations, and purchasing goods from the company to sell on consignment.

Thanks to overruns, packaging changes, and other non-traditional supply practices, Grocery Outlet is able to offer deeply discounted and rotating products. That model is often compared to the one utilized by the discount clothing retailer TJ Maxx.
