Chester Springs resident Ronak Suchindra, a student at Lionville Middle School, is one of 20 finalists for the inaugural Kid of the Year Award, a new honor from Nickelodeon, Time, and Time for Kids, writes Deb Kiner for the Harrisburg Patriot-News.

This new recognition is a “multiplatform initiative recognizing extraordinary young leaders who are making a positive impact in their communities.”

The Top Five finalists will take part in a television special hosted by Trevor Noah that will air as a simulcast across Nickelodeon, CBS Television Network, TeenNick, and Nicktoons on Dec. 5. During the special, all five finalists will be introduced before the ultimate Kid of the Year is named. Special guests will include Kristen Bell, Simone Biles, and Brie Larson, among others.

According to Nickelodeon, Suchindra, 13, is “an activist dedicated to helping spread the love of learning by motivating youth to help teach kids all around the world through his nonprofit organization, Kids Connect.”

The 20 finalists were selected from a whopping 5,000 nominations. Those who made it into the Top 50 were presented to the Advisory Board, which selected the finalists.
