Unite for HER and Connect Through Cancer – both based in West Chester – are providing help and support for people who are dealing with cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic, writes Melissa Jacobs for Main Line Today.

The two organizations are among the region’s most active nonprofit service providers. When the COVID-19 outbreak occurred in March, the women at the helm of both nonprofits were determined in their commitment to continue serving patients and their caregivers.

For breast cancer survivor Sue Weldon, the founder and CEO of Unite for HER, COVID-19 was just another challenge that needed to be met and conquered.

“We went into problem-solving and reinventing mode,” she said. “Our women were still fighting cancer, and we were going to fight for them.”

Within weeks, the organization began offering its services in a virtual format and also found ways to ship wellness-based care boxes and fresh organic vegetables to its clients.

Meanwhile, Colleen Bucci and her team at the Connect Through Cancer has also turned their organization 100 percent virtual. The nonprofit now holds all of its sessions online, including Facebook Live sessions and family fun days.
