Gunther Sunflower Field, planted by Blake Gunther and his father Fred at Eagle Village in Chester Springs, puts a smile on visitors’ faces while helping out nearby businesses, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

“I wanted to do something cool for the community,” the younger Gunther said. “When you drive by here and see it, you can’t do anything but smile.”

A sign placed near the field invites passersby to stop and “appreciate life for a minute and smile.”

In addition to making people smile, the field is a draw that is helping Gunther’s business tenants at Eagle Village get “back on their feet.”

Those enjoying the beauty of the tall, bright-yellow flowers can also visit the nearby retailers.

The field will be in full bloom until mid-September. After that, the owners will allow it to return to seed.

“Especially during this age of COVID, this bright light of optimism gives hope in the darkness,” said photographer Michael Paone of Shotglass Photos.
