With the pandemic still representing a significant threat to older populations, West Chester Rotary Club members reached out to local seniors to make sure they have everything they need in these difficult times, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

Twenty members called around 1,000 seniors to ask them how they were feeling and whether they have enough food and medications.

“They are shut-in and not allowed to go anywhere,” said Wendy Leeper, Passport Rotary Club member and director of the Chester County Bar Association. “Every effort we make might help somebody in some way.”

The drive was coordinated by Leeper’s husband, Dwight, and Rob Malone, a county administrator.

As part of the drive, Lunch Club Rotary member Christine Wildauer purchased some food for a senior who was running low on supplies. The senior had a daughter with her, but that is not always the case, said Wildauer.

“I’m sure there are people out there who don’t have family, and I worry,” said Wildauer. “It’s not an easy task to take care of the elderly.”
