The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is now entering a new stage in the collective fight against COVID-19. With Wednesday’s announcement from Governor Wolf of increased restrictions, Chester County is committed to taking the next careful steps toward protecting our residents’ health, even as our business owners face mounting challenges in order to adhere to the Governor’s requirements.

We must be prepared to resist the potential wave of COVID-19 coming from other regions of the U.S. While it is challenging – and yes, frustrating – to implement an increase in restrictions, we believe that this is the right step to take, to avoid the move back to shutting down that other states have had to do.

Chester County is distinctive in the breadth of investigation, contact tracing, and testing that has ensured our readiness to adapt.

Working with the Chester County Health Department, we remain focused on public health practices that best monitor and respond to COVID-19. These practices help to contain outbreaks, minimize community spread of coronavirus, and break the cycle of transmission. We continue to conduct investigations of those who have a confirmed-positive COVID-19 test. We have expanded our contact tracing to more quickly and thoroughly notify everyone who is in close contact with those who have tested positive for COVID-19. And we have increased access to diagnostic swab testing for anyone who is high risk for COVID, as well as for anyone who may be asymptomatic.

This continues to be a critical time for our county and every county in Pennsylvania. With this in mind, we ask that you and your family continue to join us in best safety practices, including universal masking, physical distancing, and testing with onset of symptoms. Working together, we can continue to fight COVID-19.
