A new Hobart’s Run neighborhood improvement initiative wants to raise funds to help finance the year-round maintenance of the Historic Edgewood Cemetery by offering trash grabbers for donations. At the same time, it also hopes to inspire Pottstown residents to pick up litter on their blocks.

The cemetery was abandoned eight years ago and quickly became overgrown and unsightly. For the past several years, basic care has been provided through grassroots fundraising, clean-up days, and other events by a small group of residents.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic and the related restrictions have forced the group to cancel a big spring 2020 clean-up and fundraising event that would have helped gather the required $20,000.

Instead, Hobart’s Run is offering trash grabbers – which can also be used at home to pick up hard to reach items – for donations of $15 or more per tool. All proceeds will go to the Cemetery’s mowing fund.

“In addition to helping Edgewood pay to mow the grass on this 12-acre site, we hope families and friends will use the tools to safely pick up litter while out walking in their neighborhoods,” said Cathy Skitko, director of communications for Hobart’s Run and an Edgewood Cemetery board member.

Individuals interested in contributing to Edgewood’s efforts in any way, including planning a fundraising event for a future date, may contact Andrew Monastra at [email protected] or 484-644-3830.
