Rothwell Document Solutions of West Chester has thrived for 73 years by changing with the times and by providing technology solutions and services to help businesses improve document workflow and increase office efficiency.

According to Kevin Rothwell, the company’s president, Rothwell Document Solutions has been known by several names since its founding in 1947.

“As technology has changed,” he said, “our company name has changed to reflect the technology and services that we offer.”

When Kevin became a third-generation owner in 2016, his years in operations and business development with the company helped drive his resolve to keep abreast of new technologies in order for the business to remain relevant.

“Technology is progressing, and needs are changing,” said Rothwell. “There are many small to mid-sized businesses that are not poised well to handle that change. I feel we are in a very strong position to accommodate those companies and help guide them through the tidal wave of change we are all facing.”

There is no more critical time than now, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, to embrace and manage changes in the business environment.

“Changes as a result of technology have been occurring more rapidly every year,” Rothwell said. “However, since COVID-19, the need for change has accelerated at a pace we have not yet seen. Companies must adapt and embrace this change if they are to sustain in this new world of work. Immediate access to critical business information, no matter where you are in the world, is now that much more important. If you have an Internet connection, you should be able to access this information”

To accommodate the ever-changing needs of a company, Rothwell Document Solutions will work to understand the information workflow, whether that information be in digital format or locked on paper. It will analyze network printing and scanning environments for opportunities for automation and cost containment and offer a comprehensive array of products and services to improve and streamline the businesses. These products and services include:

  • Document Management to store, manage, and track electronic documents and images of paper-based information and provide immediate access to critical data.
  • Printing Systems to improve productivity, such as multi-functional copiers, wide-format plotting systems, network printers, and scanners.
  • Print Management to better control print volumes and related costs, via the company’s Managed Print Services Program.
  • Partnerships with Technology Companies that are world-class manufacturers and software developers (Ricoh, Lanier, HP, Nuance, and others).

One of the company’s fastest growing solutions is its DocuWare software for Enterprise Content Management. Available on-premises or in the Cloud, document and content management is considered an essential tool in today’s digital workflow environment, according to Rothwell.

“DocuWare is simply a tremendous product with highly robust cloud capability that is extremely easy to use and is an overall great value,” he said.

In addition to providing printing, scanning, and content management solutions, however, Rothwell Document Solutions and its employees back up their products with unparalleled service and support.

“That’s our differentiator,” said Rothwell. “If you’re talking hardware, anyone can place a piece of equipment, but what happens for the duration of that product’s useful life is everything. Our clients have come to expect the highest levels of customer service and ethical business conduct from us throughout the course of our 73-year history.”

Rothwell, who grew up in West Chester, is especially proud that his independent company does not forget its roots when it comes to sharing what it has with the community. In addition to serving as a corporate partner of the YMCA of Greater Brandywine, his company is proud to support organizations like The Foundation for Catholic Education in Chester County, Handi-Crafters, Barclay Friends, The Arc of Chester County, and many more.

For more than seven decades, ownership of Rothwell Document Solutions has stayed in the family, while the company has equipped local businesses to improve their productivity by adapting to new technologies that are ever-changing. During that time, though, the company’s philosophy of dependable service and support has never changed.

“One thing that has remained consistent is that my last name has never left the front of our building,”

Rothwell said. “So, when you talk about local ownership and local accountability, we can’t hide behind a (different) name. Our name is our reputation, and that means everything.”
