Pandemic Did Not Dissuade Local Couple from Keeping Wedding Date

Sara Lucas and Ryan Ressel.

Sara Lucas and Ryan Ressel refused to let the coronavirus prevent them from having their wedding in West Chester on their originally planned date, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

The two had been planning their April 24 wedding for more than a year. However, just a few days after they picked up their marriage license on March 13, the Chester County courthouse was shut down due to the pandemic.

Postponing their wedding, which was planned to take place at Thornbury Farms in West Chester, would have been a nightmare, since everything was already in place. But with many businesses also closed or closing, it initially seemed they had no choice but to postpone it.

But Lucas, who had a ring engraved for Ressel with their wedding date of April 24, 2020, refused to give up that easily. Then while driving through West Chester, they noticed a location on West Chester University’s campus that they immediately decided would be their wedding site.

So they invited a dozen people and got married on their set date after all.

“Ultimately, we knew we wanted to get married April 24,” said Lucas.
