Newlin Township is the only municipality in Chester County that still has zero cases of COVID-19 recorded among its residents, which totals approximately 1,300, writes Michael Rellahan for the Daily Local News.
“I think it is a combination of things,” said William Kelsall, Chairman of Newlin Township’s Supervisors. “It’s luck, and the fact that Newlin is very rural.”
According to a study done at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s PolicyLab, he is correct. It lists population density – or lack thereof – as one of the main factors that determine which areas of the country are the most vulnerable to the virus. It also shows that the drop in cases is larger the farther one gets from the large population centers of the state.
Kelsall, the owner of a contracting business, said that residents are following common sense in dealing with the virus. He said that he and his colleagues follow guidelines issued by the state and “try to use good judgment. We wear masks.”
