The Chester County Economic Development Council has never been busier than it has been over the last three weeks, as it works to help small businesses find ways of surviving the current economic downturn, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
So far, state and federal governments have come up with several programs to support small businesses during the COVID-19 crisis.
“Pennsylvania initiated a $61 million COVID-19 Working Capital Access Program that gives small businesses affected by the pandemic working capital,” said Mike Grigalonis, COO of the CCEDC.
He said that Chester County received 315 applications before the program was closed off after the state ran out of money. In the end, CCEDC submitted 112 applications in just four days.
“The staff worked nights and weekends,” said Grigalonis. “It was first come, first serve.”
The CCEDC is now trying to remain up to speed on the Paycheck Protection Program.
“Every business owner is trying to navigate that, and we want to be a resource for business owners,” said Grigalonis.
