Loved Ones Show Support for West Chester Woman Who Lost Husband to Cancer, Now Battles It Herself

By

After losing her husband to cancer last year, West Chester resident Meredith Melasecca is now fighting her own form of cancer during the COVID-19 outbreak, writes Sarah Bloomquist for 6ABC.

Melasecca, a mother of two who teaches special education at Sugartown Elementary School in the Great Valley School District, was diagnosed with breast cancer on March 12 and began chemotherapy this week. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, she has to go to her chemotherapy appointments alone.

Before her first appointment, her friends and family organized a parade in front of her home, with signs of encouragement and love to provide her with support, even if it had to be from a distance.

“She took Jeff to chemo for five years,” said Meredith’s sister, Jen Service. “Now, she is all alone.”

Melasecca has been moved by the outpouring of support from those around her.

“I do appreciate all the love and support I’ve gotten from family and friends,” she said. “The coronavirus has definitely added another layer of stress to this, this path that I am on. But they’ve found ways to be creative and show their love and support in other ways.”
